In simple terms: how to record when you borrowed or lent money, and how it affects your balance. Available on the web version and in the mobile app.

What is a debt transaction

A debt is a separate type of transaction (alongside expense, income, and transfer). It describes the movement of money related to a loan:

  • Borrowed (received a loan) — money came to you. The account balance increases (like income), but it's not income, it's a newly created liability.
  • Lent (gave a loan) — money went from you. The account balance decreases (like an expense), but it's not a spending, it's a loan issued.

Debt transaction fields

  • Amount — always positive; the direction is set by the "Borrowed/Lent" toggle.
  • Account — the only account for the transaction: the one to which the money came (borrowed) or from which it went (lent). A second "debt account" is no longer needed.
  • Name (optional) — who you lent to / who you borrowed from (lent_name), for future clarity.
  • Remind (optional) — a checkbox that opens two fields:
    • Date and time of the reminder (must be in the future);
    • Reminder text (what exactly to remind about, e.g., "ask Ivan to return"). When the time comes, you will receive a notification with this text through the channels enabled for the "Debt reminder" event in the notification settings (Profile → Notifications): in-app, email, push, and messenger (Telegram in the international version, MAX in the Russian one).
  • Date, comment, tags — as with a regular transaction.

The reminder is sent only to you (the one who created the debt). If you change the reminder time, it will trigger again; if you uncheck the box or delete the debt, the reminder is canceled.

Mobile app

  1. Open the transaction entry form (central "+" button).
  2. In the transaction type selector, choose Debt.
  3. Select the direction — Borrowed or Lent.
  4. Enter the amount, your account, and optionally a name.
  5. If necessary, enable Remind, set the date/time, and text.
  6. Save.

To edit a debt transaction, open it from the list (tap the row). The type can be switched to expense/income/transfer; when switching to transfer or back, the transaction is recreated (the old entry is deleted, a new one is created). You can also duplicate a debt — long press the row → "Duplicate".

Web version

In the transaction window, select the Debt type, choose the Received/Lent direction, specify the account, optionally a name, and if necessary, enable Remind (date/time + text). The logic is identical to the mobile version.

How debt looks in the list

A debt transaction is marked with a gray arrow on a gray background (a neutral color, unlike the green for income and red for expense). The arrow's direction indicates the money movement: "Borrowed" — incoming, "Lent" — outgoing.

How debt affects the balance

  • "Borrowed" adds the amount to the account balance (you received money).
  • "Lent" subtracts the amount from the account balance (you gave money).

You record the repayment of a debt with a reverse transaction when it is settled (e.g., when you return what you borrowed — with a separate "Lent" transaction, or vice versa). There is no separate "close debt with one button" mechanism yet — this money movement is accounted for by regular transactions.
