Filters in reports

This translation was produced automatically and hasn't been reviewed yet.

In simple terms: how to narrow down any report to the desired period, accounts, tags, or members—and what happens to the numbers when you do.

The Gist

  • At the top of the reports catalog, there are three filters: period, accounts, members. The selected set is carried over to the report you open from there—the lens doesn't reset on the first click.
  • In the reports themselves, accounts and period are available, and in "Expenses by Tags" and "Spending Map," there's also a tags filter.
  • Any filter is added to the page's URL, so you can bookmark a filtered report or send it to a colleague via a link.

Custom Period

Besides the buttons "1 mo / 3 mo / 6 mo / 12 mo," there's a "Period" tab: it opens two date fields—"From" and "To." In the mobile app, the same option is located under the calendar icon to the right of the period buttons; the selected range is indicated by text below them.

When switching to a custom period, the fields are filled with the window currently on the screen—the first click only changes the control element, not the report.

Tags Filter

In the "Expenses by Tags" report, click "Tags" and select the ones you need. Besides the tags themselves, the list includes a "No tag" line—expenses without a tag assigned. This is a separate sector of the chart, and it's important to keep it disable-able: people usually come here when they are sorting out categories.

One non-obvious behavior. The filter selects operations, not reallocates amounts. If a purchase has two tags—"food" and "leisure"—and you filter by "food," this purchase will be included in the report entirely, and half of "leisure" will remain in the chart. This is intended: otherwise, the sum of the sectors wouldn't match the total written above the chart.

Members Filter

Shows only operations entered by the selected person. The list includes a "No author" line—operations with no author recorded: imported and old entries. Without it, they would disappear with any filter use.

The members filter is not present in balance reports ("Accounts," "Net worth," "Currency exposure"): the balance does not depend on who entered the operations.

If a report is unexpectedly empty

If you uncheck all boxes, the report will honestly state that no accounts, tags, or members are selected and suggest selecting at least one. This is not a malfunction or data loss: the filter remains in place, just select the necessary ones or click "All."

In the mobile app, you cannot uncheck the last box—the tag list will revert to the "all tags" state so you don't end up with an empty screen.
