Bulk Tagging and Merging

Tagging multiple transactions at once

Use the “Bulk Tagging” button at the top of the page (or the wand icon on a specific tag’s card – then it’s already selected).

1. Select the tag and what to do:
   • Add tag — other transaction tags remain;
   • Replace all tags with this one — previous tags are removed;
   • Remove tag — remove this tag where it’s applied.
2. Set conditions. At least one is required – otherwise, the edit would affect your entire history, which is never an accidental desire:
   • in the comment contains (e.g., ZARA) — case-insensitive;
   • period, account, type (expense/income/transfer/debt), amount from and to;
   • only transactions without tags — the most common case: cleaning up after import.
3. Click “Check”. It will show how many transactions match and a few examples. “Apply” is unavailable until you check – and this is intentional: there is no transaction list on this page, so the number and examples are your preview.
4. Click “Apply”.

If a transaction is a transfer, both sides will receive the tag: a transfer is a single entry made of two halves, and one half with a tag and the other without is a broken entry.

Undoing

Immediately after a bulk edit, a line appears under the heading like “Tag ‘clothing’ added: 34 transactions” with an “Undo” button.

You can only undo the last bulk edit. As soon as you make the next one, the previous one can no longer be undone, and the line describes the new one.

Undoing restores exactly what the edit changed: if you manually edited tags after it, those edits will be saved.

Merging two tags

Use the merge icon on a tag’s card. Choose which tag to transfer to: all transactions from the source tag will receive the selected one, and the source tag will be deleted.

This is the correct way to get rid of an unnecessary tag. Simple tag deletion just unlinks it from all transactions, leaving them uncategorized; merging moves them to where they belong. Merging can also be undone — the tag will return with its color.
